On October 31, 2019, Mayes County Deputies responded to a residence located at 7407 N. Highway 20/82. Mayes County Dispatch had been informed that a male subject had killed his girlfriend the previous night with a hammer. Upon arrival, Mayes County Deputies discovered a deceased female subject in the residence. The deputies found evidence that a violent crime had occurred. During the course of the investigation, Harvey Dale Murphy, 37 year old male, was arrested and booked into jail for Murder in the First Degree. Mayes County Sheriff's Office asked for assistance from the Oklahoma Bureau of Investigation and the Oklahoma State Medical Examiner.  The victim was identified as Kimmy Jo Stipes, 52 year old female.  The body was sent to the Tulsa Medical Examiner's Office to determine manner and cause of death.  The defendant has been arrested only and enjoys the presumption of innocence until a judge or jury finds him guilty.
